Robotics and Coding (Fall/Winter Sessions) – 2nd to 5th Graders 2026/27

Grades: 2nd - 5th (Ages: 6 - 11)

Ignite a love for technology in our 8-week Robotics and Coding program! Students explore electrical circuits, sensors, and motors using Micro:bit and CyberBot.

In the Fall session, they create LED animations, motion-based games, and Python projects with Micro:bit and Cyberbots. In-person sessions are staff-led at your school; online students use the Micro:bit simulator (or bring their own device).

In the Winter session, in-person students build and program CyberBot robots to navigate mazes, follow lines, and avoid obstacles using tactile and infrared sensors. Online students continue with advanced Micro:bit projects, including Python and radio communication.

Using MakeCode for beginners and Python for more experienced learners, kids develop problem-solving skills and creative thinking as they build robots that sense and respond to their environment.

About STEM Afterschool Academy

STEM Afterschool Academy provides STEM education for students in grades K-8. We offer a variety of programs, including robotics, coding, engineering, and science. We also offer summer camps and workshops.

Summary of Activities to be Offered for the Academic Year:

1. Robotics and Coding: (Fall/Winter Sessions) – For 2nd to 5th Graders

Ignite a passion for technology with our 8-week Robotics and Coding program! Students in 2nd to 5th grade will dive into robotics and programming, exploring electrical circuits and components like sensors and motors using MicroBit and CyberBot. In the Fall session, students create LED animations, motion-based games, and Python projects with MicroBit, offered in-person (at Your School, with staff-led activities) or online (using the MicroBit simulator or optional MicroBit). In the Winter session, in-person students build CyberBot robots to navigate mazes, follow lines, and avoid obstacles using tactile and infrared sensors, while online students advance with MicroBit projects, including Python and radio communication. Using MakeCode for beginners and Python for advanced learners, students will develop robots that sense and interact with their environment, fostering creativity and problem-solving.

2. Robotics, MicroBit Coding and Electronics: (Fall/Winter Sessions) – For Kindergarten to 1st Graders

Spark curiosity in young innovators with our 8-week Robotics using Graphical Coding and Electronics program! Kindergarten and 1st graders will explore the MicroBit microcontroller through hands-on activities, learning the basics of electronics and coding using fun graphical programing language. In the Fall session, students create animated LED displays and motion-triggered games using MakeCode blocks, and Cyberbots (at Your School, staff-led). In the Winter session, in-person students advance to more interactive projects. Through fun projects, students develop coding and electronics skills, igniting a love for STEM and teamwork.

Currently serving schools in Montgomery County, DC and Northern Virginia.
