Heidi Mordhorst (WHISPERshout Writing Workshop) is a veteran classroom teacher, published poet and Maryland State Arts Council Teaching Artist. Heidi provides language and literacy enrichment programs for ages 4-12 during Out-of-School Time and during school hours. WHISPERshout’s multi-arts enrichment classes offer drama, art, music & movement, and natural science mixed with poetry—the perfect genre for young writers! Class length is 75-90 minutes to allow time for the expert attention required by this creative, academic work in a socially and emotionally rich group setting. At the last class of each session, children present their work to an audience and take home a published product they can share with their families. WHISPERshout Writing Workshop also publishes an online journal featuring poems by kids ages 4-12.

Let’s Play Poetry!

In a small group of about 10, we’ll chase the winter blahs away by reading poems about sports and games of many kinds. We’ll use surprising materials to design indoor challenges and have fun trying them out, and we’ll practice writing with powerful, active language! At the last session families will be invited to hear our poems and try out the best of our games and activities, and kids will take home their own copy of our published poetry anthology.

En un grupo pequeño de aproximadamente 10, ahuyentaremos la desgana invernal leyendo poemas sobre deportes y juegos de todo tipo. Usaremos materiales sorprendentes para diseñar desafíos en interiores y nos divertiremos probándolos, ¡y practicaremos la escritura con un lenguaje poderoso y activo! En la última sesión, se invitará a las familias a escuchar nuestros poemas y probar lo mejor de nuestros juegos y actividades, y los niños se llevarán a casa su propia copia de nuestra antología de poesía publicada.
