Big Learning

Open a window to another culture, communicate in another language, and make discoveries!  Big Learning instructors are fluent in the language they teach and lessons are designed to build practical language and early literacy skills in a fun, informal language immersion setting with lively games, songs, cultural notes, activities, and an accompanying workbook.

Each session (Fall, Winter, and Spring) we explore different themes and topics. This level is appropriate for all beginners and continuing students with some previous language experience. Classes may include students who have completed one or more beginner or intermediate sessions and also children who hear and speak French at home. Our teachers will make assessments and tailor instruction with differentiated activities for students who are ready for more advanced material. As children progress from beginner to advanced, there is more writing practice.

Classes are intended for children who are already reading and writing in English.

During each class, there will be plenty of time for activities, games, and songs to keep students engaged and speaking the target language. Each child will use their own Workbook during class. Workbook will be sent home each week. Please help your child remember to bring their workbook to school on class days.

From our experience, children can be hungry after school. Although Big Learning instructors do not provide snacks, there is time for your child to eat a simple snack from home before class starts.

Refund Policy

Make-up classes are scheduled where possible for weather closures, either by adding a week at the end of the session or by lengthening the class time during the final few classes. If there are excessive weather closures and it is not possible to make up all the canceled classes, no refunds are provided. Refunds are not offered for individual student absences. Once a class is confirmed, no refunds are given if a student withdraws.
