Spanish Intermediate
Grades: 3rd - 5th (Ages: 6 - 12) Co-ed
Learning another language and about another culture is an enduring and powerful life skill that allows us to communicate and make meaningful connections with others.
We’re on our way! Children will gain confidence in speaking, listening, and comprehension, expand their vocabulary, and begin to read and write in Spanish. Intermediate level classes introduce a broad variety of topics and cultural notes that give children the opportunity to explore customs and traditions, geography, history, and practical use of the language as they practice reading and writing.
Intermediate topics include formal greetings, telling time, the Galápagos, using the Mayan number system, counting to 1,000, seasonal sports and activities, Machu Picchu, the house, typical Latin lunch and snack foods, Tikal, describing physical characteristics, a visit to the zoo, Chichén Itzá, and more!
Our classes are taught by native speakers of the language in a fun, small-group immersion setting. Each session includes different themes with hands-on activities and a workbook to reinforce learning and to strengthen early literacy skills in Spanish.
Intermediate Level is a full-year program offered over the course of two sessions during the school year. The prerequisite for this level is at least one 12-week or two 8-week sessions of Beginner level or equivalent previous experience in the language.
Additional Notes
Minimum 6, Maximum 12 students.
Please set @biglearning.org as a safe sender in your email provider so you will receive notifications about this class.
During each class, there will be plenty of time for reading and writing and activities, dialogues, games, and songs to keep students engaged and speaking the target language. Each child will have their own Workbook to use during class. Workbooks will be sent home at the end of the session.
From our experience, children can be hungry after school. Although Big Learning instructors do not provide snacks, there is time for your child to eat a simple snack from home before class starts.
